The search for “Africa's Next Supermodel”® made it’s debut in 2006 looking for 16 young aspiring models of African descent that are expected to vie for the chance of a lifetime to take part in the global talent search and TV reality show, to find the next Black Supermodel. This reality TV series is a spin-off of the hit series “America’s Next Top Model” which is the brainchild of the beautiful, sexy and talented actress and supermodel Tyra Banks. Africa’s version is organized by Beauties of Africa Inc. a pageant production company and is being promoted as a way of finding the next African Supermodel and is open to all Black / African girls regardless of their country who are or have Black origins, and is thus not strictly limited to only Africans. The auditions and castings for season 1 also known as cycle took place in Nigeria, Botswana, South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Atlanta, Zambia, New York Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago. London, Manchester, Birmingham, Paris, Milan, Rome and Stockholm.
The top Prize in addition to over US$ 150,000 in cash and prizes, is a 5-year modeling contract, along with several magazine covers, photo shoots with top industry photographers, both in Europe and America. The girls are judged by a rotating panel of top fashions industry professionals such a modeling agency scouts, fashion photographers, designers, and fashion magazine editors, who will score the girls on each assignment or casting in order of preference over the 4 week period. “Africa's Next Supermodel”® is broadcast on TV in Europe and America as well as Africa-wide is excepted to draw audiences of up to 200 million each episode as the finalists are filmed attending photo shoots model casting and attending interviews in different fashion hot spots like Milan, Rome Paris and London. Organizers are keen to stress that the show is open to all Black or African girls regardless of where they live, and the 16 lucky girls who make the final cut will be in the spotlight for the 4 weeks of the show, fans will be able to help to choose “Africa's Next Supermodel”® by voting for their favorite model every week. It is also and opportunity for top African fashion designers to showcase their fashion collections as one lucky designer from Africa will be able to hold a fashion how featuring his or her collection and the girls in the grand finale.
There is no Next Episode of Africa's Next Supermodel planned.
