Bad news travels fast and from far away. Huge issues saturate the media making it easy to forget we can each create positive change in the world. Simple things, like learning the traditions of our area, giving blood, or writing to an inspiration. The kind of stuff we all want to do but rarely get around to.
That’s what Change the World in Five Minutes is for. It started with an open call for short films. Nearly a hundred proposals included gloomy warnings of doom, imaginative community plans and appreciations of nature. The nine finalists - crossing animation, drama, documentary, graphics, music and advertising - were selected for their positive, encouraging standpoints.
You’ll find more of that attitude on Change the World in Five Minutes and it doesn’t just come from filmmakers. It’s where we show what we’re doing to make a change, through photos, videos, news items or message posts. It’s about encouraging others too, sharing out ideas and finding some inspiration.
Whether you know somewhere to recycle clothes, want to rant about energy wasters or need to organise a car pool at work, the key is just to get involved.

Change the World in Five Minutes is a co-production between Film Australia, SBS, the New South Wales Film and Television Office (NSWFTO) and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Change the World in Five Minutes was inspired by the book Change the World for Ten Bucks (2005) by Australian not-for-profit organisation We Are What We Do. The entire production team - illustrators, design agencies, the publisher, distributors and booksellers - provided services for free and it sold at a greatly reduced margin. (Source: SBS)
