S2E1 - Ford Anglia

Sheldon and Peter are faced with a genuine motoring conundrum. Client Steve is desperate to recreate his first ever car – a Ford Anglia 105e with a 1.5-litre engine. The trouble is, Anglias only came with a 1-litre or 1.3-litre engine, meaning Sheldon must source not only a car but also a replacement power plant. Finding an entirely new engine for a 1966 Anglia is no mean feat, let alone fitting one, so Sheldon needs to tap into the Anglia community for help.

It's no picnic for Peter either. With rusting bodywork and no replacement panels available, he's forced to fabricate a new front valance from scratch. To do so, he enlists the help of long time friend and master engineer Will Trickett who arrives with an arsenal of traditional equipment, to fix a problem the old school way.

To make matters worse, a whining, leaking differential and faulty shock absorbers mean there's a tonne of mechanical work to be done as well. The interior needs a total refurb to boot, so the chaps have their work cut out if they are to deliver a car that meets David's expectations without breaking the bank.

Can Sheldon and Peter deliver an automatic Reliant Scimitar GTE for a fellow classic car enthusiast who's recovering from spinal surgery?

Sheldon and Peter are given a very specific brief. Client Max has had major spinal surgery that's left him unable to drive manual cars. For Max to indulge his passion for classic cars, an automatic gearbox is a must have for the Reliant Scimitar GTE that he wants Sheldon to find. After a lengthy search, Sheldon tracks down a likely automatic Scimitar, but then things take a turn for the worse. Having stalled several times on the way back to the workshop, the guys discover that the all-important auto-box is leaking oil and will need to come out. The race is on to get the Scimitar running smoothly and changing gear seamlessly, before Sheldon can even think about the complicated wiring for an immobiliser alarm or Pete can start work on the tatty bumpers.

Sheldon and Peter are challenged to track down the ultimate automotive unicorn. Client John wants a Rover P6 that's reliable enough to use as his everyday runabout. When Sheldon finds a car that's within budget, reliability does not come as standard.

Leaking rear brakes and an unresponsive automatic gearbox mean there's a mechanical mountain to climb to meet John's expectations, whilst Peter also faces a tough challenge as he attempts to fit a completely new vinyl roof. The P6 was his Dad's car of choice, so it's an emotional rollercoaster for Sheldon, but has he let his heart rule his head?

Unfortunately, iconic sports cars do not come cheap and when Sheldon eventually finds a Porsche within budget, it comes complete with a steering rack that's leaking hydraulic fluid and perished driveshaft oil seals. Porsche parts also come at a premium price, so it's going to be a struggle to turn a profit. With the mechanical work dragging on, Peter is fighting the clock to complete an interior trim job that simply can't be rushed. Have the guys finally met their match?
