Opera lovers, rejoice! If you can't make it to New York to see a performance at the Metropolitan Opera, the next best thing to being there is to see one of its Saturday matinees broadcast on PBS on Great Performances at the Met. Originally aired as part of its "Great Performances" series, the programs got their own title in 2006. With operatic standards like "Aida", "The Barber of Seville" and "Turandot" and performances by some of opera's biggest names, including Reneé Flemming, Placido Domingo and Anna Netrebko, the series brings the best of modern opera into American homes.

The electrifying team of Vittorio Grigolo and Diana Damrau reunites for a new production of Gounod's opera based on the Shakespeare play. Damrau makes her role debut as Juliette in Bartlett Sher's new production, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. Elliot Madore sings Mercutio and Mikhail Petrenko sings Frre Laurent. Sher's staging is a La Scala production, initially presented by the Salzburg Festival, where it premiered in 2008.

Experience two-time Tony Award–winning composer Jeanine Tesori's new opera based on librettist George Brant's acclaimed play. Mezzo-soprano Emily D'Angelo stars as Jess, a hot-shot fighter pilot whose unplanned pregnancy takes her out of the cockpit and lands her in Las Vegas, operating a Reaper drone halfway around the world. Production staged by Michael Mayer; Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts.
