'Karajan's Magic and Myth' explores the paradoxes in the life and music of the controversial, enigmatic Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan. He is one of the most successful conductors in the history of classical music. Many of his recordings from Italian opera of Wage and Richard Strauss, of Beethoven and Brahms are treasured by music lovers. However at the peak of his fame, his performances were criticised for being too manicured, and were said to be lacking warmth and spiritual depth.
