Kick2Kick is aimed at 5-12 year olds who play Auskick, which is where most of today´s AFL stars have come from. This year, more than 150 thousand Australian kids will play Auskick.
The program will air every Saturday at 6:45am, through to the end of the finals. The idea was to give kids something to watch as they lace up their footy boots each Saturday morning before playing Auskick. What better way to motivate them to play AFL!
The show is hosted by Totally Wild presenter Wes Denning, and filmed from a different junior club each week. Auskick players will be on hand each episode to help build the enthusiasm, illustrate footy drills and help create the atmosphere and excitement that is junior footy.
Wes and his band of Auskickers will throw to various segments, including:
MY BIG GAME
Each weekend at AFL matches around Australia half-time means one thing: Auskick on the game´s biggest stage! Our cameras will follow one excited young player capturing their big game experience: watching the first quarter, chasing balls around, getting their boots and uniforms on and having a last minute pep talk. We film the team in the tunnel, running onto the ground and playing the game, all the while focusing on our chosen player. We interview them at different stages, as well as possibly interviewing their parents and the coach.
ASK VOSSY
Network Ten personality and Brownlow medallist, Michael Voss, will host a segment explaining the terminology young viewers might hear in a typical Ten telecast (For example, ´one percenters´, ´hard ball gets´, ´flooding´) as well as strategy and positional play that is part of AFL.
NAB RISING STAR
We will showcase each week´s NAB Rising Star, providing a glimpse of tomorrow´s greats our audience will grow up following.
RULE BOOK
Each week in the AFL season there seems to be one topical rule that grabs the media´s attention. We´ll enlist the help of AFL umpires to explain the rule and compare it to Auskick rules. We´ll also enlist the help of our local Auskick club of the week to help demonstrate how different game techniques should be performed to ensure our young viewers play by the rules.
PLAY OF THE WEEK
This is a segment we may introduce during the year. We´ll encourage viewers to send in home video of themselves playing Auskick. We choose the best goal, mark or exciting play to air on the show. The best video wins a prize pack at the end of the year. The weekly winner may win a prize as well.
NAB AUSKICK SUPER CLINICS
With dozens of super clinics planned for 2007, we´ll be getting to as many of them as possible. We can meet some top AFL players, coaches, lots of Auskickers, and we can get a further insight into the game we love.
MY FIRST GAME
An AFL player introduces themselves to camera, stating their position and club. They then talk about their first ever game of junior footy, why they started playing AFL, who their hero was and the highlight of their career so far.
FOOTY SCIENCE
Scope presenter, Dr Rob Bell will host a light hearted look at one of the more intriguing aspects of football. From his trademark desk at the CSIRO lab, Dr Rob will talk about issues such as: ´why a torpedo punt travels further than a drop punt´, ´what angle you should kick the ball to gain maximum distance, "how big an advantage is kicking with the wind?" He´ll explain the science behind the footy.
VOX BOX
This is a short vox pop segment with kids. They´ll be answering some big questions like, "What do you like best about playing Auskick?" "Who is the best player in the AFL?" and "what´s your best moment on a footy field?"
PROFILE PIECES
We´ll be doing in depth interviews with some of the game´s stars, like Adam Goodes. We´ll interview them at training, and possibly film them doing some activities in their spare time, like visiting schools or surfing. We´ll use vision of them in games, and talk about how much they train, how much they eat, and what life is like as a professional footballer. (Source: Ten)
