Lastikman

“Lastikman” is an upcoming fantasy, comedy series to debut in September 2007 in the Philippines on ABS-CBN network’s new fall line up schedule. The series was originally tentatively scheduled as possibly being named “Mars Ravelo's Lastikman”. “Lastikman” is a superhero who is ½ human and ½ alien from the imaginary planet of Harriao. His alien name is Eskapper who is played by “Vhong Navarro” and who is not welcome anymore on his home planet because of his mixed blood. To save his life his Mother sends him to Earth where he is found and adopted (sounds a lot like the origin of “Superman”). He is given the name of Miguel and as he is growing up he learns he has unusual powers and abilities. He can stretch his body as far as he can imagine and mold himself into any object he wishes (sounds like Mr. Fantastic in “The Fantastic Four” or “Plasticman” or a number of other superheros). The series really begins here as he makes a costume for himself and decides on the name of “Lastikman”.

This fictional superhero first appeared on the Big Screen in the Philippines in 1958. He next appeared in Aliwan Komiks (Filipino spelling of comics) in 1964 created by ”Mars Revelo”. On 1 February 1965 he appeared in his own Komik published by the Mango Corporation. Revelo is said to be one of the greatest comic and graphic novelists to ever come out of the Philippines. Some of the characters he has created over the years include Bondying, Buhay Pilipino, Captain Barbell, Darna, Dragonna, Dvesebel, Flash Bomba, Hiwaga, Mariposa, Maruja, Rita, Roberta, Tiny Tony, Varga, and many others.
