Legion introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. He's based on the Marvel comics character Legion, the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in the films), first introduced in 1985.
David gains an ally in the battle against his former friends: a time traveler who can undo anything that happens to him. Farouk meets the traveler and discovers just how powerful she is.
The Forces of Division try to use Squirrel to lead them to David, but Lenny captures Cary and David "convinces" his prisoner to help expand Jia-yi's abilities.
David has Switch takes him back to his infancy to try and stop Farouk from entering his mind, and sees how his parents met.
Time demons enter real time through a gap created by Switch's powers. As the demons eat time, David meets his mother; Syd share a drink with her teenage self; Farouk, Clark, and Kerry battle the demons in their nest; Cary rescues Switch; and Lenny meets her future daughter.
After defeating a squad of Division 3 and stripping Daniel of his memories, David locates the airship with some help from Farouk and takes the fight to his enemy to recover Switch.
In a distant land, Melanie and Oliver take in a baby Syd while Jerome Wolf watches and follows them into the city as Syd grows up. In the end, there's only one way to settle things: a rap battle between Oliver and Jerome.
David tries to help Charles defeat Farouk in the past, while Syd takes another path to stopping Baby David before he becomes the adult who abused her.
David and Charles join forces against the younger and older Farouks, and Charles makes a deal. Meanwhile, Switch meets her father and makes amends for what she has done.
