My Brilliant Friend tells the story of Elena Greco, a now-elderly woman who discovers the most important friend in her life, Raffaella "Lila" Cerullo, seems to have disappeared without a trace. A writer, immersed in a house full of books, Greco turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their tempestuous friendship, starting from the point when Elena met Lila their first year of primary school in 1950.Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives as she tries to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena's brilliant friend and — in a way — her best friend, and worst enemy.

S4E8 - The Investigation
After Elena discovers that Carmen has been pressured into suing her for slander, she and Lila decide to work together on an exposé of the Solaras' affairs. Later, Elena learns that their article may not be enough to put the brothers behind bars.

During Nino's long overdue visit to see Imma, a sudden and mysterious disappearance rocks the neighborhood. Later, Lila is driven further to the brink by her son's drug habit and another sudden loss.

After learning that Pasquale and Nadia have been arrested, Lila informs Elena that Gennaro has run away. Though Lila is unphased, Elena tries to manage the crisis when she learns Elsa has gone with him as well. Many years later, Lila manages to surprise her friend yet again.
