On his drive home from a conference, a noted novelist (Tom Berenger) spontaneously buys a creepy painting at a yard sale. When the artwork begins to transform and become more menacing, he realizes he must destroy it before it kills him.
A released convict (Jeremy Sisto) is told by his dying friend of a four-part map that details the location of $3.5 million from a robbery. With one quarter of the map in hand, he goes on a violent odyssey to find the three remaining sections.
After he's paralyzed from a snake bite, a vacationing businessman (Richard Thomas) is mistakenly declared dead and taken to the autopsy room. Completely conscious but unable to move or speak, he bears witness to his own autopsy, performed by a female doctor (Greta Scacchi) and her student.
A couple (Steven Weber, Kim Delaney) on a "pristine wilderness" adventure take a wrong turn and end up in Rock and Roll Heaven, Ore., a Rockwellian hamlet that is not on any map and is populated by deceased rock icons. But something ominous lurks beneath the sunny surface, and the couple soon realize they may be trapped in the town forever.
