Our Cops in the North tells the dramatic, emotional, characterful stories of Northumbria Police Force and the victims of crime they meet.
In the first episode, police in Sunderland come to the aid of a 70-year-old who has been robbed at knife-point by masked assailants, who have made off with £15,000 in cash. In a secluded hamlet where sheep outnumber people, PC Curtis Ritchie investigates the theft of a vintage Land Rover Defender, which turns out to be one of many vehicles stolen on the same night.
In the second edition, police officers in Sunderland respond to the fatal stabbing of 62-year-old grandmother Joan Hoggett, who was killed in the shop that she worked in by 19-year-old Ethan Mountain. Meanwhile, detectives work tirelessly to a complicated crime spree, where offenders have stolen a pub jukebox, tip jar and charity box and while attempting to flee police have stolen a car and mugged a passer-by.
This episode follows Northumbria Police as they tackle evolving modern crimes in an ever-changing world, including child trafficking and the downloading of indecent images of children, and the effect investigating these cases has on the officers themselves - from seasoned detectives to new response officers.
Drug-related crime is on the rise in Northumbria. Detectives, neighbourhood teams and response units respond to the fall out - robberies, burglaries and fatal overdoses.
