“Protagonistas de novela 2” is a reality based talent show so to speak produced in the U.S. that is aired in Spanish on the U.S. based “Telemundo” TV Network. The show starts off with 12 contestantants and airs nightly 4 times a week over a 12-week stretch eliminating contestants to eventually get one individual male and one individual female winner. The 2 winners are given a large cash prize and a guest-starring role in the next soap opera on the Telemundo network. Winners of this show are determined much the same way as FOX TV’s "American Idol," is where as they have to outlast the other contestants by garnering the most call-in votes by viewers each week. But that is where the sameness ends and it then takes on the aspects of CBS TV’s “Big Brother” because the 12 are put together in a living arrangement that has their every action, move, and sound watched by cameras and microphones set throughout the facility. Instead of it being a real house it is a closed set made up to look like an enclosed house to the contestants. During their time in the special living arrangements they are required to act out a drama, dance and sing as their weekly challenges. The challenges make them work together as if the entire group were really performing in a daily TV soap opera.
This is technically the 2nd in the series of this talent contest and the winners of the first season’s show were “Maria Millie Ruperto” and “Raul Arrieta”. The shows’ title "Protagonistas de Novela" is translated to English to mean “Protagonists in a Soap Opera”. When the show debuted in April 2002 and is considered as U.S.'s first ever-Spanish language reality show. In the second season of the show in 2003 one of the contestants although born in Puerto Rico had moved to Florida in her teens. The lovely, sexy and vivacious “Jessie Camacho” who had previously appeared on the 3rd Season of Survivor titled “Survivor: Africa” in 2000 but only lasted 6 days on the show was entered in this her 2nd Reality show and made it to the final 4. The Telemundo Network is affiliated with NBC and Universal Studios.
