Spec centers on a mysterious alien life form recovered from a derelict spacecraft who escapes into the woods outside a small Oregon town. The show explores the characters of that town—and one family in particular—as they are forever changed by the discovery of this new visitor. The title stems from the label the alien is given, short for specimen.

The project comes from writer Michael Alaimo (Major Crimes, The Closer) and producer Aaron Kaplan, who is developing.
