The Cape (1996)

The Cape takes viewers inside the compelling personal and professional lives of the NASA astronauts and cadets who will lead the space program into the next century. Former LA Law star Corbin Bernsen (Henry ‘Bull’ Eckert) heads the star-studded cast, which includes Beverly Hills 90210’s Cameron Bancroft (Zeke Beaumont), Adam Baldwin (Jack Riles), former Murder One actress Bobbie Phillips (Barbara De Santos), Bobbie Hosea (Reggie Warren), David Kelsey (DB Woods), Katie Mitchell (Andrea Wyler), Chad Willet (Peter Engel) and Tyra Ferrell (Tamara St James). The Cape was produced with the co-operation and technical support of NASA, which gave the series unprecedented access to film at the John F Kennedy Space Center and former astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Bruce Melnick served as technical consultants. Filmed entirely on location against the backdrop of Central Florida’s beaches, the programme offers a true-to-life depiction of the daily trials and tribulations faced by the astronauts involved in the Shuttle program. The series balances their demanding professional lives at NASA with their private lives in a Florida beach community using scrupulous attention to detail to enhance the drama. While focusing on realistic stories of human drama and intrigue, The Cape addresses man’s perennial fascination with space and the exploration of the universe.
