In this sequel to the original WKRP in Cincinnati, Arthur Carlson (Gordon Jump) continues to manage the station on behal of his mother, while Herb Tarlek (Frank Bonner) is in charge of sales and Les Nesman (Richard Sanders) is the station's veteran newsman. The rest of the original staff have left, but after the firing of the most recent program director, Carlson hires Donovan Aderhold (Mykelti Williamson) as part of a plan to keep his mother from selling the station.
Other employees at the station include: Jack Allen (Michael Des Barres) and Dana Burns (Kathleen Garrett), a feuding couple going through a divorce while doing a joint morning show; Arthur Carlson Jr. (Lightfield Lewis), Arthur's son and an aspiring salesman; Mona Loveland (Tawny Kitaen), the new late-night DJ brought in by Donovan; Ronnie Lee (Wendy Davis), the receptionist; Claire Hartline (Hope Alexander-Willis), the station's continuity and traffic director; and Buddy Dornster (John Chappell), the incompetent and shell-shocked station engineer who served with Arthur Sr. in the Korean War. In the second season, Burns & Allen were replaced by morning DJ Razor Dee (French Stewart).
The show lasted two years and featured guest appearances by several of the original cast: Howard Hessman, Jennifer Marlowe, and Venus Flytrap.
