Two women, young and beautiful, form a strong friendship. Marie de Rohan, Duchess of Chevreuse, lively and cheerful, free in body and mind, who collects adventures, and Anne of Austria, Queen of France, prudish and shy who, married too young and abandoned by her husband the king Louis XIII suffers from neurasthenia.

Thanks to Marie, Anne is finally pregnant with a possible heir to the throne. Then, a tragic accident destroys the royal peace and sees Marie exiled, far from the court and from Anne.
