Marina

This version of “Marina” was shown on ABS-CBN TV weekdays in the Philippines from February through Novermber 2004. There has been at least 15 Movies and TV shows over the years with this same title the earlies being a Brazilian TV series in 1965 and the most recent being a Mexican TV series in 2006. This romantic drama version shown in the Philippines is the very first ever fantasy also called fantaserye shown on the ABS-CBN TV network. Child actress Jane Oineza played the young Marina and Claudine Baretto played the character of Marina as she was grown up. Marina was born to the parents of Esther and Elias Sto. Domingo who named her Cristina. She is born as a normal child but falls victim to a curse by the mean Victoria Raymundo played by actress Cherie Gil. Victoria is a deity who is masquerading as a normal human to seek her revenge on Elias by bewitching his daughter. Elias wants Victoria to lift the curse she has put on Cristina so he leaves Esther to care for her on his own. But the day Cristina turned 7 years old she turned into a mermaid and Esther finds out and wanting to protect her from the townspeople who believe mermaids are unlucky takes Cristina and abandons her to the sea.
