The documentary, which has already won awards across various countrywide and worldwide festivals and critic circles, follows the history of backup singers and profiling the lives of Merry Clayton, Darlene Love, Claudia Lennear, and Judith Hill, among others. Between them, they have backed on stage the likes of Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, and Steve Wonder, to name a select few.

Unlike the film, however, the TV series would focus solely on current backup singers. Love and Lisa Fischer, also featured in the film, are rumored to appear in the Broadway version. (Source: Hollywood Reporter)
