A recently widowed father, quits his job as a popular 800 word columnist for a top selling Sydney newspaper. Over the internet he buys a house on an impulse in a remote New Zealand seaside town. He then has to break the news to his two teenage kids who just lost their mum, and now face an even more uncertain future. But the colourful and inquisitive locals ensure his dream of a fresh start does not go to plan.
After the boating accident, the townsfolk of Weld mount a search-and-rescue operation for Zac, Steve, and Ike. George is torn between aiding the search and comforting a frightened Shay, or going to the hospital and supporting Jan, who is in labor.
Shay struggles with the fallout from the sea rescue and there's a major surprise at Woody and Tracey's engagement party.
Shay goes to the dark side after suffering from a broken heart and Katie resurrects a teaching career.
George gets an unlikely message from beyond the grave while Woody's top secret divorce plan unravels. Meanwhile, Hannah has a challenge convincing Constable Tom she'd be a top cop.
George and his cohorts head into the outback to meet with Woody's ex, but Woody ends up getting the shock of his lifetime. Back in Weld, Tracey stumbles upon the truth about Woody's "solar conference," while Shay receives unwelcome attention from Ollie.
The Turner home is exploding with houseguests, and George is desperate for solitude, but his plan to evict some of the extra bodies backfires. Woody and Tracey struggle to come to terms, leaving Woody's daughter, Poppy, in a very awkward position.
George enjoys having the house to himself and declares war on punctuation.
George relishes his time alone in the house but is dragged out to attend Woody's bachelor party, known by locals as "Groom-spiel." Woody is less than enthusiastic about this notorious Weld tradition and asks George to watch out for him, but Monty is eager to take over the best-man duties.
Monty seeks out George for help writing his best-man speech, prompting George to reminisce about his own wedding day. Ollie's attentions towards Shay take a dangerous turn, while Lindsay grows increasingly jealous about Arlo and Poppy's friendship. Woody and Tracey's big day arrives, but a power outage threatens their wedding.
After Woody and Tracey's wedding George found himself at a crossroad; should he decide to have a baby with Fiona or spend the night and pursue a romance with Katie?
Meanwhile, Arlo tries to navigate the Lindsay situation and Monty surprises everybody when he hooks up with Ngahuia again.
George's romantic night with Katie unravels. Fiona's baby plans hit an emotional and financial snag. And boot camp comes to Weld!
George and Katie test their new relationship with a winter camp. Arlo and Poppy grow closer while Shay struggles with Ike moving on and Big Mac has a grand tourist plan for Weld.
Arlo two-times Lindsay and Poppy and suffers the fallout. George struggles in the parenting department and worries he's causing Billy's stress problem. Shay gets an unlikely visitor.
George and Woody fail to make up after Arlo's shenanigans. Ike receives unlikely help from Shay in his spiritual quest. A council restructure has Weld at risk of being swallowed up by Stafford.
George's in-laws urge him to get involved with the sentencing of the driver who killed Laura, which puts strain on his relationship with Katie. Shay and Siouxsie pick up a handsome Australian hitchhiker.
Still upset after her confrontation with Katie, Shay avoids the Turner household. Poppy faces bullying on social media before the school ball, and the election for president of the New Republic of Weld heats up.
Big Mac's space race plans divide the town. George is worried that Katie could lose her home, and Woody's worried he's about to lose his daughter.
