Alaska: The Last Frontier: The Frozen Edge is the 4th spin-off series from Animal Planet's hit franchise "Alaska: The Last Frontier" which is about The Kilchers who have lived off the land for four generations in the Alaskan wilderness.
Every kind of weather brings new challenges on the Alaskan frontier; the Kilchers are dealing with the aftermath of an unusually warm winter that has muddied the waters of their restocking excursion.
While warmth is usually welcome in Alaska, it has created an unseasonable amount of work for the Kilchers; they'll need to take advantage of the weather now to ensure survival later.
The unseasonably warm winter continues for the Kilchers and brings around a new unexpected threat, bears that would normally be hibernating are emerging looking for food.
The Kilchers cattle are one of the most important assets they have, so a cattle drive always brings heightened tensions.
As spring arrives on the frontier, The Kilchers furiously prep for winter; a hunt for the normally reclusive and less dangerous bear results in a very dangerous and unexpected encounter.
Summer has arrived but The Kilchers have no time for relaxing; they'll be busy stocking freezers to survive the oncoming winter and they're hoping to score big on a salmon run.
Cattle are a crucial element to sustaining life; one cow is harvested for meat and materials while another calf is being born.
As summer comes to an end, the heat dwindles; the Kilchers need to gather stockpiles of wood and use some frontier ingenuity to create a new stove.
Everyone scrambles to finish salvaging, salmon harvesting and construction on a new cabin for the coming winter.
The Kilchers are nearing the end of the summer harvest but receive no breaks from Mother Nature as a fishing trip runs foul and a crucial beehive colony is dying off for unknown reasons.
The change of seasons has reached the frontier; the Kilchers will need to hunt and search for food in more dangerous and remote locations to sustain their winter stockpiles.
As winter approaches, the Kilchers lose a close friend and will have to drive his herd of cattle after his passing; the rugged trip turns out to be an emotional one.
A winter storm causes dangerous conditions for the Kilchers and their cattle herd, threatening to wash some of their livestock out to sea.
The Kilchers keep stockpiling as winter seems to be coming late this year; they use the time to continue stocking up their freezers for the inevitable deep freeze.
