The Showstoppers round marks the first time contestants will showcase their talent by performing with a band this season for their last chance to make it into the coveted Top 24. American Idol gets closer to crowning a winner as it continues. Following America's overnight vote, 10 contestants will be revealed from the Top 16, leaving six contestants to perform for a chance at one of two spots picked by the judges, rounding out the Top 12.
The top 12 contestants perform Oscar(R)-nominated songs in hopes of securing America's vote into the top nine. Plus, Lionel Richie opens the show with a special performance of "Say You Say Me."
In an "Idol" first, 10 finalists from last season will return to make their debut on the "American Idol" stage, where they will sing for America's vote. After a week-long vote, only one will remain in the competition this season, rounding out the top 10.
To kick off the night, the results of the Comeback show will be announced. Then, after the top nine travel to Walt Disney World for a one-on-one session with a celebrity mentor and inspiration from the Most Magical Place on Earth, the season's top 10 contestants, including the Comeback winner, will perform a song from the renowned Disney songbook in hopes of securing America's real-time vote. The top seven finalists will be revealed at the end of the episode.
In this show, the remaining finalists will perform one song dedicated to the special loved ones in their lives in honor of Mother's Day and a second song from the Coldplay songbook, mentored by the band's lead singer, Chris Martin. Coldplay will also perform their recently announced new single, "Higher Power," in a worldwide exclusive performance.
Multi-GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter, producer and artist FINNEAS will mentor the finalists who will be grouped to perform two of his songs, "Break My Heart Again" and "What They'll Say About Us." The top five will perform two additional songs each - one song will be inspired by their personal idol and the second song will be the debut of their new, recently recorded winner's single, each produced by a renowned music producer. In addition to mentoring, FINNEAS will also take to the Idol stage to perform "Till Forever Falls Apart" with friend, collaborator and acclaimed singer/songwriter Ashe.
"American Idol" is ready to crown its winner on a special three-hour live coast-to-coast season finale event. The top three finalists will each take the stage one last time to perform in hopes of securing America's vote and, ultimately, become this season's winner.
