Armchair Theatre is a British television drama anthology series of single plays that ran on the ITV network from 1956 to 1974.
The theme of Romeo and Juliet reworked in an orthodox Jewish household where Jeff who is a Christian falls in love with Juliet. Both families bitterly oppose the relationship. The story is set in wartime, in the East End of London.
Late 19th century. The young miss Julie lives in a mansion with her father. She has recently broken her engagement but is attracted to one of the servants, Jean. They spend the midsummer night together, telling each other their memories and of their dreams. Realizing that an affair between a man of the people and an aristocrat is impossible, they plan to escape to Switzerland.
Mrs. Kendrick borrows a jeweled necklace from a friend for an important social event. Afterwards it is stolen, and Mrs. Kendrick goes into debt to duplicate it. The thief discovers it's costume jewelry, but Mrs. Kendrick never learns the truth, and struggles for years to pay off the huge debt.
There are odd goings-on in the Turkish baths. Is the distinguished stranger among the Colonel Blimps really the "King of Iceland"?
Deep beneath the streets of Italy lie the catacombs of the Montresors, filled with barrels of wine and the bones of the dead. One evening, friends Fortunado and Montresor venture below the city with promises of the rare vintage wine Amontillado. Based on the short story by Edgar Allen Poe, Fortunado and Montresor find themselves in a web of betray and revenge, changing their friendship forever.
A young naive woman falls for a handsome young man who her emotionally abusive father suspects is a fortune hunter.
