There might even be some priceless Old Masters lost in the vaults.
In Oxford's Bodleian Library, Dr Bendor Grosvenor spots a finely painted portrait by an unknown artist. Could it be by the greatest portrait painter working in Rome in the 18th century, Pompeo Batoni?
Bendor Grosvenor finds two anonymous planks in a drawer at Birmingham Art Gallery. Put together, they show a scene of village life. Is he right in detecting the hand of Flemish master Brueghel?
In Cardiff Art Gallery, the experts investigate a badly overpainted Madonna. Elsewhere, Dr Bendor Grosvenor travels to Florence to explore the early Renaissance.
