Californication is a series based around the writer Hank Moody. He moves to California and suffers a writers block as well as many other family and personal issues. His drinking and generally unhealthy lifestyle interrupts his relationships with his long term lover Karen and his daughter Becca as he struggles with his manager Charlie Runkle.
Hank flashes back to his turbulent times with Karen and a confused young Becca - and their days with a happier Charlie and Marcy. A run-in with a nun, however, helps him to put things into perspective.
Hank entices Karen into dinner, but Julia interrupts their romantic evening. Later, Charlie, Marcy, Krull, and Levon bring even more drama to the table. Rath shows up with Eddie Nero, who's in "research mode" for an appearance on "Santa Monica Cop." And Stu's assault on Charlie's manhood sends the night into chaos.
The ratings are in for "Santa Monica Cop" – and Hank may soon be out of a job, which sends Charlie reeling. With the revenue stream drying up Marcy decides to accept Stu's offer. Karen arrives with a special guest: Becca, who makes a big announcement. However, Levon spoils Karen's plans for a family reunion.
Karen prepares for Becca's wedding whilst Hank is still confused about it. Stu and Marcy's $1,000,000 arrangement plays out and Hank tries to help teach his son how to get a successful relationship.
