Den lokale tv-forretningsejer Axel får chancen for at investere i en elektrisk curler og ser en mulighed for at revolutionere skønhedsindustrien og opnå den store succes, han altid har drømt om. Bondekonen Birthes søn skal konfirmeres, og hun planlægger den store dag. Økonomien er dog stram, og Birthe og hendes mand, Jørgen, er bestemt ikke enige om, hvordan de få penge skal forvaltes.
Carmen Curlers is preparing for a nice visit from the American ambassador. Kathrine's new friend, the folk singer Annie, invites Kathrine and her boyfriend Gustav on a weekend trip together with a political group whose creativity and political awareness fascinates her. What Kathrine doesn't know is that the group has big plans for her.
Carmen Curlers have been copied and everyone in the factory is under suspicion. The secretary Lis tries to get hold of the director of Carla Curlers by phone, but the factory in Italy refuses to put her through, so Axel, Frans and Marc head for Italy to find out who the accomplice is. Birthe makes a revealing discovery and must act quickly.
