At 48, Tom Villeneuve is finally free. Wrongly accused of murdering his wife, Tom has just spent 17 years in prison. Combative, he studies law in prison and when he is released, he becomes a lawyer. Back in his hometown, Nice, he is determined to find out who the real murderer is. He opens his own practice as a "young" lawyer and defends those he believes to be unjustly accused of crime, like him.
While she had accused him 17 years earlier, Rachel, Anna's best friend, calls on Tom to defend her husband, accused of having killed his mistress. The opportunity for the lawyer to continue to dig his own investigation, helped by Sigourney and their new recruit, Simon, a very helpful but slightly awkward intern.
While preparing for the Olympics, gymnast Justine Petrini is accused of stealing Napoleon Bonaparte's death mask from the Masséna Museum, leaving a collateral victim... Tom doesn't believe she's capable of murder, she could be his daughter, Zoé, with whom the lawyer is gradually reconnecting! Resourceful, Sigourney tracks down Salvatore de Santis, Anna's brother, one of the last people to have seen her alive...

But the lawyer gets involved in a new case to defend Nour Samaan, an employee on a yacht and accused of having murdered her insistent employer, Vadim Dimitrov...
The body of Noémie Glassman, a famous soprano, is found at the Nice Opera. Her murderer seems to have been found: Jojo, the owner of the palace and Tom's friend, discovered the victim and left her DNA in the dressing room. Could it be a set-up? Tom, Sigourney and Simon investigate but they have other worries. A hitman is chasing Tom. Time is running out, he must prove his innocence in the Peter Marks case, before he gets murdered! Zoé comes to his aid by diving back into her mother's files...
