Cesar Millan's Dog Nation follows world-famous dog behaviorist Cesar Millan and his son Andre Millan as they road-trip across America in search of dogs and their humans who need help and want to share their story.
Cesar and Andre help an amazing golden retriever named Fergus who survived a horrific burning. Fergus' owners hope that he can someday become a therapy dog for other burn survivors, but they need Cesar to help with the dog's behavior while on his leash.
Cesar and Andre Millan journey down the West Coast to visit with heroes of the canine communities of San Diego. They then visit Tijuana, Mexico, to visit with Dog Rescue Without Borders, an organization that works to help lessen the city's massive stray dog population.

The duo meet Pali, the founder and president of Rocket Dog Rescue, who canvasses local San Francisco shelters trying to find homes for dogs on the euthanasia list. Pali grew up homeless herself, so she identifies with these dogs that society has forgotten.

Then, the Millans work with Brutus, another dog rescued from an Asian slaughterhouse, who has aggression issues toward other male dogs — a symptom of being kenneled before his rescue. The goal is to get Brutus to behave better, thereby increasing his chances of finding a forever home.
Cesar Millan and his son Andre visit Philadelphia, where they work with a nonprofit that rescues dogs and trains them for the police force.The duo helps her rehabilitate a biting Belgian Malinois named Sting. The dog has huge potential, but his bad habits are holding him back from becoming a police dog. Then they come to the aid of a retired couple who own a dog that is disturbing the peace and quiet of retirement.
Cesar and Andre Millan visit Washington, D.C., to consult with an organization that provides blind veterans with free guide dogs.
