At the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in Central Florida, five diverse, hardworking manicurists try to make ends meet in a staid economy while managing perilous personal lives awash in drama. Amidst all the silk wraps, pedicures and polish treatments, salon owner Desna, who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother, leads a staff that includes best friend Jennifer, now sober and raising two kids from a previous relationship; enigmatic Ann, who provides security for the salon; mild-mannered preppy and ex-convict Polly; and Virginia, who becomes easily bored and impatient with her job. Also hanging around the salon are shady redneck Roller; ambulance coach Bryce, Jennifer's husband who is also newly sober; and Uncle Daddy, a dangerous, deeply Catholic and actively bisexual crime boss.
Desna and her girls take pride in doing nails; Desna finds herself entangled in a money laundering scheme; Desna's promise of going clean is complicated when things go south with Roller, leading her and Virginia to take matters into their own hands.
Desna and Virginia prepare a cover story to tell the ladies following an entanglement with Roller. Also, Desna's dream salon is falling apart, and Virginia goes missing but returns with a concocted tale that sends Desna on an unforeseen journey.
Virginia's lies deepen as Desna tries to cover their tracks. Meanwhile, Desna is determined to get her dream salon, and Desna and Bryce are in danger of Uncle Daddy's wrath when something goes awry at the clinic.
Haunted by recent events with Roller, Desna is doubly desperate to get out from under Uncle Daddy's thumb. Meanwhile, Bryce drifts deeper into the Dixie Mafia, which Jennifer isn't happy about. Polly reunites with her former gold-digging "friend", while Quiet Ann is in a lady-mess of her own. Meanwhile, Dr. Ken finds himself in a world of trouble.
Desna and Jennifer may be Dr. Ken's only hope, as Bryce wrongly accuses him of a heinous crime. Dean sees a disturbing billboard ad that hits too close to home, leaving Desna to cope with the dark aftermath. Meanwhile, Virginia and Desna are forced to go to Polly for help to rid the world of two horrible birds from Desna's past, with one well-aimed stone.
All of our girls go to their new fancy salon for the first time. They aren't met with the kindness of strangers. Desna and crew decide to compete in Florida's premiere nail design competition for a big cash prize. Feeling left out of the crew, Virginia does something shocking to get some of life's finer things. Jennifer finds out an agonizing secret of Desna's that may destroy their friendship forever.
After the big nail competition, Desna may finally get out from Uncle Daddy's grasp. Jennifer struggles knowing Desna's dark secret, while Polly discovers her previously unknown maternal instincts. Meanwhile, Dean may have found his first feelings of romantic love and makes a discovery that threatens to destroy everyone he knows and loves.
With a shocking revelation affecting the entire crew, Jennifer finds unexpected solace in her square-dancing instructor, Hank. Polly uses all of her powers of bad for good, for the first time, while Quiet Ann is torn about a big decision. Scary times are in store for Virginia, but for Desna most of all.
With the clock ticking, Desna is scrambling to get out of her worst trouble yet. Determined, she goes searching for the truth with her crew right behind her, save for Jennifer, who is learning how to cope as a Dixie Mafia wife. When Desna's sleuthing hits pay dirt, she goes to the only person who can save her. Time is running out.
Following a harrowing escape from Roller's grasp, Desna is on the run. Roller is close behind, running from the Russians. Dean, Polly and Virginia frantically search for Desna before time runs out. Meanwhile, Jennifer gets more deeply involved with Hank, oblivious to how close her life is to imploding. In the end, only Desna can save Jennifer, Roller, and her crew with a sacrifice greater than any she's ever had to make.
