Brash, stubborn and resourceful medical examiner Jordan Cavanaugh revives her career in Boston, occasionally breaking the rules and ticking off the cops or her co-workers, including a neurotic boss. On the home front, she gets crime-solving help from her retired-cop dad.
Fugitive Jordan pursues the truth about J.D.'s murder by traveling to Washington, D.C., where she hopes to uncover the news story he was working on to find out if it was the reason for his death. Meanwhile, Macy tries to locate Jordan; and Lu works with a no-nonsense independent investigator to prove Jordan's guilt.
Jordan and Lu investigate the suicide of a teen, whose note indicated that he'd been molested; Woody looks into the gruesome death of a woman who was hit by several cars on a highway; Macy warns Jordan that she needs to do things by the book when an investigator starts poking around the office; and Lily receives some surprising news.

Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims guest star as their Las Vegas characters, Danny McCoy and Delinda Deline, whose Boston vacation turns into a crime-busting mission when they help Jordan and Woody investigate the murder of a boxing champ. Meanwhile, Bug works on the case of a woman who was found in the Charles River---and had been there since the 1980s. And a pregnant Lily returns to work and reveals the identity of the baby's father.
Jordan takes a road trip with Lily to recover a body, but the assignment becomes complicated when the body vanishes. Elsewhere, Woody runs afoul of a rogue cop while investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy; Ivers continues to scrutinize the morgue staff's practices; and Lily wonders how her dysfunctional love life will affect her parenting once her child is born.
The group investigates the shootings of three people, including an alleged murderer and his ruthless defense lawyer, Sheldon Levine. Levine, fully conscious but unable to move or speak, is mistakenly declared dead and taken to the morgue, where he watches in horror as Macy and Co. prepare to perform his autopsy.
Nigel and Woody team up to stop the murderous rampage of a serial killer named the Hangman, an Internet-savvy psycho who communicates with Nigel via taunting posts on Nigel's blog. Meanwhile, Jordan is assigned to audit past autopsy cases for anomalies and discovers Bug may have helped put an innocent man behind bars years earlier.
A deadly virus plagues Boston and could spark a sweeping public-health scare. Meanwhile, Bug grows concerned that a pregnant Lily, who can't take medication, may contract the virus.
Deep secrets are exposed when Jordan, Macy and Det. Matt Seely team up to investigate the slaying of a teen girl. Meanwhile, Woody tries to unravel mysteries surrounding a mummy, only to make a startling discovery; and Macy corners Jordan about her declining health.
Jordan joins forces with Woody to scrutinize the slaying of a pregnant woman---and to find the baby that was missing from her womb. The case turns more disturbing when Jordan makes a pivotal mistake, impacting the investigation. Meanwhile, Macy has his hands full guiding a morgue tour for a group of juvenile delinquents.

Meanwhile, Woody, Nigel and Kate investigate the wedding-day slaying of a groom; and the staffers approach Bug about his brush with Homeland Security, which had earlier suspected him of being a terrorist.
Jordan and Ivers join forces to investigate the unusual case of a woman who recently died---but who was presumed dead for six years. Meanwhile, Lily and Brandau scrutinize the death of their psychologist after the doctor dies during one of their sessions; and Lily goes into labor.
A bizarre man who's slowly dying from poison enlists Woody and Jordan to help him locate his missing daughter before his imminent death. Meanwhile, Nigel and Kate investigate the murder of two magicians; and Bug makes a crucial life decision.
In the sixth-season finale, Jordan and her coworkers are in a plane crash in mountain terrain on their flight home after investigating the deaths of a shipload of people on the Norwegian Sea. As Woody and Bug travel on foot for help, the rest try to stay warm and desperately wait for rescue.
