Darcey Bussell's Royal Roadtrip will see the Royal Ballet star follow in the footsteps of the Queen as she sets out on a regal adventure across the magnificent landscapes of Britain and visits a raft of breathtaking locations that have shaped our monarch's identity. There's barely an inch of the country the Queen hasn't visited during her 70 years on the throne and now Darcey, who received her Damehood from the Queen in 2018 and danced for her on multiple occasions, wants to visit some of the locations where the monarch left a lasting impression.
The ballet star travels across the country to visit some of the locations where the Queen has made a lasting impression during her 70 years on the throne. She begins in the Scottish Highlands, where she tosses the caber at the Balmoral Highland Games and finds out what it is like to have the Queen as a neighbour. She also tastes some royal whisky, tries fly-fishing on the River Dee - one of the Queen's favourite pastimes - before moving on to Edinburgh, where she steps on board the Royal Yacht Britannia.
In Richmond Park, Darcey visits the hunting lodge where the Queen spent the first year of her life. It is also a trip down memory lane for Darcey, as it was also her childhood home.
Darcey continues her road trip in Norfolk, starting at the secret royal entrance to a beach just a few miles from the Queen's Winter retreat at Sandringham.
Darcey's royal road trip concludes in Wales, where she discovers the birthplace of the Queen's beloved pet, the corgi. She also meets a harpist who has performed more than 180 times for the royals, and goes hunting for royal gold at a Snowdonia mine that has produced the gold for almost every royal wedding ring of the past 100 years. The final stop of Darcey's adventure is over the border in Gloucestershire, where she discovers how the Stinking Bishop smelly cheese could get the royal seal of approval.
