Dawson Leery, Joey Potter, and Pacey Witter are life long friends, whose lives start to rapidly change when a new girl, Jen Lindley, moves in next door to Dawson and the foursome start high school. Chronicling the passage from adolescence to young adulthood, they are joined by two other newcomers to Capeside: brother and sister Jack and Andie McPhee and, when they go to college, by Audrey Liddell. Set in the fictional town of Capeside, MA., Dawson's Creek is the coming of age story of a close knit group of friends on the verge of adulthood.
Dawson and Joey have kissed....so what's next? Jen finds herself on the edge of this blossoming romance, and doesn't like it.Pacey meets and plays a prank on new girl at school Andie...who then turns the tables on him.Mitch goes to a divorce lawyer.
An entry in Joey's journal leaves Dawson fretting so much, he completly forgets Pacey's 16th Birthday and their plans. Jen encouraged by Abby finds herself sharing the fact she wants Dawson back.Andie's brother Jack gets a job at the Ice House.Gail is stunned by Mitch's alternative to divorce- an open marriage.
An economics class project sets Dawson and Jen as a married couple, Pacey and Andie as husband/wife and Joey as a single parent.Jen uses this project as an obvious attempt to get closer to Dawson. Pacey gets to learn more about Andie's family circumstances and Joey finds a role model and inspiration for her future. Mitch and Gail try out their open marriage.
Tamara Jacobs, the teacher Pacey had a liason from last year returns to Capeside they have an awkward reunion of sorts. At the same time Andie confides in Dawson she may like Pacey. Joey strikes out on her with her drawing and art appreciation.A handsome fisherman comes between Abby and Jen.
As a full moon hits Capeside, everyone begins to act a little off.Pacey is concerned when he sees Andie's homelife:Dawson becomes affected by his parents marriage problems:Jen agrees to a date with Vincent and Jack shares a kiss with a surprised Joey
At the Homecoming Dance, Dawson witnesses a moment between Joey and Jack and hears about their kiss.This seemingly leads to the end of their new romance and maybe even their friendship.Pacey goes to the dance with Andie but spots an old crush...
With an important English test around the corner, the group gather for an all night study session at wealthy and on the make Chris Wolfe's house.During the night secrets are revealed and friendships/relationships changed.
Pacey steps up for Andie when her mother has a psychotic break in a public place.While Joey goes on a kind of date with Jack, Dawson joins Jen at another wild party and saves her from a dark situation.Dawson tries to come to terms with his father moving out
Andie runs for student council and enlists Pacey and Joey's help.What she hasn't planned for is rival Abby who as a campaign tactic, exposes Andie's " Crazy Mum".Pushed to the edge, Andie has a decison to make.Jen trying to help Dawson channel his inner teenager for his next movie script, only makes him feel more helpless in his parents divorce Worried about his sister Jack shuts out Joey.
Sitting through auditions for Dawson's next movie prompts a conversation between Jen and Dawson that could change the nature of their current friendship. Pacey sets out to fullfill Andie's dream/fantasy surrounding how she will loose her virginity. Jack poses nude for Joey and inadvertantly shows his feelings for her.
Chris and Abby find an anonymous note on the classroom floor suggesting the writer and the receiver had sex the night before.Staying true to character Abby sets out to expose who exactly 'did it'.She calls the three suspect couples together: Jack & Joey , Jen and Dawson or was it Andie and Pacey?
Dawson and Mitch go on a father-son fishing trip with Pacey and his critical, alcholic father Sheriff John Witter, whose favorite pastime seems to be putting pacey down at every opportunity.With tensions high, Dawson then learns that Jack has been invited along.
Back on dry land, Gail invites Jen, Joey, Andie and Abby to help her put together a news report on teenage girl behavior.Conlicts are provoked, porn is seen and truths are told.
As Dawson films his new movie, memories are rehashed.Especially when the actress portraying Joey, Devon takes things a little too far in observing Joey.
Pacey discovers Andie's prescription drug use.
Jack is forced to read his poem out loud for an English assignment.However the nature of the work, leaves the Capeside gossip mill working overtime...is Jack gay?
While Joey ponders how to talk to him about this..Pacey trying to defend Jack goes too far with an overbearing teacher and then questions the lack of support from Andie.
An unexpected visit from their estranged father makes Andie happy, but forces Jack to confront his own feelings, his father's attitude towards him and then to tell Joey.
Pacey decides to make a stand against an abusive teacher , but there are unimagined consequences.
Prompted by the advice of Andie's thereapist , she and Dawson ,on his sixteenth bithday have a night of underage drinking and blues.
At the Leery House, Joey is organizing a surprise party for Dawson.However she has her own surprise when she finds recently outed Jack in the arms of Abby.
Jen decides her differences with Ty are too much.
Dawson tries to get a professor's opinion on his movie, and Joey seeks to date someone who is actually interested in Jack.
A Capeside wedding forces Joey to confront his family's reputation.
Abby drowns, forcing Joey to face the death of his mother and causing Jen to lose faith in everything.
Dawson and Joey's romantic dinner is ruined by the presence of his parents; Pacey suspects Andie of being unfaithful to him.
Dawson looks for a subject for the end of his film class, and Andie and Jack's father insists on taking them from Capes.
Dawson fights Mr. Potter's drug trade, and Pacey confronts her father.
