FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency against the occupying alien force.
At the center of the series is Tom Mason (Noah Wyle), a Boston history professor whose family was torn apart. Tom must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as one of the leaders of the Boston-born resistance movement known as the 2nd Mass. Tom will do anything for his sons, including Ben, who was recently rescued from alien control, but is still extremely vulnerable. The last we see Tom, he is stepping onboard an alien craft, surrendering himself in attempt to save his son.
Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation) co-stars as Anne Glass, a pediatrician who becomes the primary medic of the 2nd Mass. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance, Captain Weaver. The series also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Hal, Tom’s oldest son and a growing fighter in the resistance movement; Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s youngest son; Connor Jessup (The Saddle Club) as Ben, Tom’s recently rescued son; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, a former med student and Dr. Glass’ only support. Colin Cunningham (Living in Your Car) is John Pope, a rebel who will stop at nothing to kill the aliens and Sarah Carter (Shark) is Margaret, a wary survivor of Pope’s gang. Tom's life hangs in the balance as his beamer drifts into space; Tom encounters a surprising guest; Anne reluctantly steps into Tom's shoes to help lead the 2nd Mass.
A surprise skitter attack leaves the 2nd Mass without food. In desperation, Maggie, Ben, Pope, and Sara go on a dangerous mission hoping to find supplies. Along the way, they encounter a family deeply scarred by the Espheni plan. Maggie must make false promises to insure the 2nd Masses' survival. Meanwhile, Tom and Anne discover the Espheni have created something part Espheni, part Skitter, part Hornet.. and part human.
The 2nd Mass discovers the source for the seemingly endless supply of enemy forces. With the Volm's help, Tom's leadership begins to spread to remaining human militias around the world. Hal disobeys his father to help Maggie on a personal mission. Meanwhile, Tom has to make an agonizing choice that ultimately risks one of their own, leaving lasting repercussions for them all.
A mission to procure vehicles and fuel goes awry. Cochise shares troubling news with Anne that will test both her medical and leadership skills. Anthony's mental stability and his loyalties are brought into question. Meanwhile, a desperate Pope takes things into his own hands.
The 2nd Mass leaves Chinatown; a deranged gunman takes Weaver hostage; Tom sets out to rescue Hal from Pope and his dangerous group of survivors.
Tom takes refuge with a family that has distanced itself from the fight; Hal and Isabella's romance grows as they search for Tom; the 2nd Mass locates an Espheni device; Maggie makes a decision.
The 2nd Mass arrives at a functional military base run by Weaver's former flame; the two groups make plans for the final assault on the Espheni.
Weaver discovers the shocking truth about an old friend; Maggie and Isabella are forced to work together; the 2nd Mass attempts an escape.
Tom gains a powerful new weapon against the Espheni; Ben attempts to extract enemy plans; Pope discovers that Tom is alive; the 2nd Mass must reassess their situation when an unexpected visitor appears.
The final standoff brings the Masons, the 2nd Mass, and their new allies into the bowels of an iconic American location, wrought with unpredictable obstacles.
