Global Village takes us to the far corners of the globe where we will discover that the world really is an amazing place.
With a total of four million kilometres travelled and 160 countries visited, this colourful series, presented and narrated by SBS's Silvio Rivier, reveals the lifestyles, traditions and hopes of an enormous range of people and cultures.
From Buick taxi drivers in Syria, to the annual prosciutto festival in northern Italy; from cocoa bean plantations in Venezuela to light-aircraft fanatics in France; from bird singing competitions in Indonesia to fencers in outback Australia; from the Nihang warrior caste in India to the royal sport of falconry in Abu Dhabi.
Screening Monday to Friday at 6.00pm this long-running series looks at the extraordinary ways other people of the world go about their day-to-day lives. Each episode contains two stories from different parts of the world.
Silvio says, "The series is a refreshing and fascinating look at the wonder of human endeavour and the grandeur and folly of nature. Absolutely perfect for the armchair traveller'."
Screening each weeknight, Global Village will lead into SBS World News. The series is from France, made by France3/Faut Pas Rever in co-production with other companies.
"Having travelled extensively myself (without a video camera) I'm thrilled to be able to bring these wonderful and often amazing stories into people's homes here in Australia," says Silvio. "For those who haven't experienced the excitement of travelling and discovering new people and places, this series brings it all directly to you." (Source: SBS)
