Gosick takes place in 1924 in a small, made-up European country of Sauville. The story centers on Kazuya Kujo, the third son of a Japanese Imperial soldier, who is a transfer student to St. Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the rage. After exchange student Kazuya Kujo encounters the strange gothic genius Victorique, Inspector Grevil de Blois comes to her for advice on the murder of a local fortune-teller. Soon the two students embark on an unexpected journey to solve the case.
When Kujo, Victorique, and the other guests are drugged at dinner, they begin to suspect someone seeks revenge for the tragic events of ten years earlier aboard the same mysterious ship, The Queen Berry. Then, one by one, the guests begin to die.
Kujo throws himself in harm's way to save Victorique from a killer. At police headquarters, Victorique brilliantly reveals the true mastermind behind the harrowing events aboard the haunting ship, as well as the dark reasons behind the original tragedy.
When Kujo sees a motorcyclist decapitated, Victorique must prove his innocence. Later, Kujo and the beautiful new exchange student from England, Avril, uncover an eight-year-old murder in the academy crypt.
The Phantom Thief Kuiaran returns after an eight-year absence. Kujo is knocked out as he investigates the strange sounds emanating from the haunted storehouse. And, as usual, Victorique must put the pieces together before anyone else gets hurt.
Kujo follows along as Victorique responds to an odd summons to the descendants of the Gray Wolves. As they travel to a village in the mountains, Victorique relates the tale of her mother, Cordelia Gallo, and the criminal accusations leveled against her.
As Victorique attempts to clear her mother's name and track down clues to the real murderer of the village elder, suspicious accidents begin to claim the lives of the other visitors.
In true genius form, Victorique reveals the other visitors' criminal intentions. Kujo aids Victorique in a ruse to draw a confession from the murderer of elder Theodore while the bond of Kujo's and Victorique's friendship is strengthened.
On a shopping trip to the capital, Kujo accidentally stumbles into an apparent criminal operation at the Jeantan department store that involves a terrified girl in the basement. But when he returns with Inspector Grevil, nothing is as he remembers it.
Upon hearing the escaped girl's story, Kujo, with the help of a clever street urchin, convinces the police of the criminal activity within the Jeantan department store. With the aid of Victorique's insight, Kujo and the police uncover a terrible secret.
When the love of Inspector Grevil's life, Jacqueline, visits the academy, Victorique tells a tale of the past in which she helped Grevil save Jacqueline from an accusation of murder—and demanded something from him in return.
When Avril invites Kujo to spend summer vacation with her in the Mediterranean, he chooses instead to spend it with Victorique at the academy. While he climbs trees and dreams of his childhood, Victorique trades riddles with Kujo's bright brother.
Avril leads Kujo into a forbidden clock tower and tells him the ghost story of the alchemist who is said to haunt it. Later, Kujo follows a stranger into the clock tower and witnesses his mysterious death.
Ms. Cecil coaxes Victorique into the classroom to meet her peers where she has an altercation with Avril. Together—but not without friction—Victorique, Avril, and Kujo dive deeper into the mystery of the deaths in the alchemist's tower.
Kujo has an unsettling encounter with an associate of Victorique's mother. Later, Victorique ushers everyone inside the tower to unravel the murders and mystery of the missing alchemist.
Kujo is shocked to discover that the Marquis has moved his daughter, Victorique, to a convent in Lithuania. With the inspector's assistance, Kujo travels there to rescue her when he learns of an unusual performance and a bigger political plot.
Two people are murdered in the midst of an illusionist performance. Cordelia, Victorique's mother, gives Kujo a keepsake and a riddle for her daughter to solve. And Kujo confronts the Marquis, Victorique's father.
Victorique and Kujo find themselves in the middle of a bloody feud between the Ministry of the Occult and the Royal Science Academy of Saubure. In a train headed toward disaster, how will the friends save themselves and everyone aboard?
The Marquis arranges for a performance of the Blue Rose of Saubreme to draw out Cordelia. While Cordelia recollects her past, Victorique is summoned by the Marquis to solve the unsolved mystery behind Coco Rose, the Queen of Saubure.
As Victorique is escorted into a room below the theater filled with old articles and clippings, the Marquis demands she solve the unsolved murder of Coco Rose, the Queen. Kujo aids her by independently rounding up clues around a missing dancer.
Armed with knowledge gained from Nicole Lulu's grave and watching the play from a box seat, Victorique reveals how the Queen's death was executed and covered up. But does Victorique know more than she tells Grevil?
After Kujo receives a Christmas gift from Victorique, soldiers seize him—intent on removing him, along with all foreigners, from the country under the king's orders. When Kujo escapes, is it only to flee into the clutches of a more devious faction?
After exposing the Minister of Science and his secret plans, the Marquis rises to power and pushes Saubure toward a military alliance with Germany. But Victorique's mother, Cordelia, has other plans.
With the help of Brian Roscoe, Victorique evades her pursuers and escapes Saubure. As war breaks out, Kujo joins the Japanese army. Letter after letter, he writes to Victorique. Will they be reunited in the end?
