Murray is a nice guy. Everyone thinks so. He is good to his friends, kind to his colleagues, treats his staff well. He's a top bloke. So no one is more surprised than Murray when his wife Bex walks out on their marriage. On her 40th birthday, at her surprise party. Murray is confused. What's he done wrong? Where's she gone? Is she coming back?
Murray hears the news while arranging a surprise 40th birthday party for Bex. He desperately tries to find Bex before the party but doesn't reach her in time. When they finally speak Bex confirms that's she's walking out on Murray and their life together.
In the wake of this news, Murray tries to cancel the party - but it's too late. As guests arrive and the party goes ahead, Murray and Bex are left shell-shocked by the day's events - which go from bad to worse when a birthday surprise for Bex forces Murray and Bex into a very awkward situation.
Murray and Bex reluctantly break the news to their friends and family that they are separating. Bex's father, Don, takes the news particularly badly. Bex attempts to embark on her exciting new life without Murray by joining Abby's book club.
Murray goes to great lengths to see Bex, but she is not best pleased when she finds out what he's been up to.
Bex agrees to meet Murray for dinner, where he plans to re-propose. The evening gets off to a bad start when Murray's friend Grant (Kenneth Collard) loses the ring he was supposed to bring.
In the penultimate episode Bex moves in with her sister - just as Murray arrives with some news: he has quit his job in order to focus on their marriage. But he is quickly disappointed by Bex's response.
Murray tries to clear up things with his colleague Emma and decides that he needs to give it one last push with Bex. Bex's sister Keeley has a massive decision about the future of her relationship.
