India during World War II and the Royal Artillery has formed a Concert Party to entertain the other troops. The 'quit India' campaign is gaining momentum and the sun appears to be setting on this corner of the empire.
BSM Williams and Gunner Parkins have identical photographs beside their beds. Could they both be of Edith, the Sergeant-Major's girl-friend in Colchester 20 years ago? Could Edith be young Parky's mum? Could Williams be his dad?
And, when Solomons wants to kick the lad out of the concert party, Williams looks like having to post his only-begotten son 'up the jungle.'
Punka Wallahs are replaced by electric fans - Rangi and Solly conspire to sort out this industrial dispute.
Sergeant-Major Williams persuades the Colonel to go on leave - nothing stands between the concert party and jungle training-except Solly's ingenuity.
The Sergeant Major takes the Concert Party on a jungle survival course - Rangi ensures that they survive.
Rangi helps Solly to determine whether or not Parky is the Sergeant-Major's long-lost son.
The Concert Party is stranded in a remote part of the North West Frontier.
The BSM gets the Concert Party into the same uniform by devising a musical number for them.
