Veteran district attorney J.L. "Fatman" McCabe solves cases with the help of his easygoing private investigator partner Jake Styles.
A trip to Hawaii to visit an old friend lands Jake in the middle of a murder mystery. Meanwhile, McCabe retires as Los Angeles' district attorney but his history in Hawaii proves invaluable when he arrives to help Jake.
McCabe calls Jake in the middle of the night to investigate a tourist who had been stabbed. After the initial suspect dies, the team must find the truth about what happened that night, while dealing with the victim's odd behavior.
McCabe's son whom he hasn't seen because of something he did, comes to see him and McCabe is not ready to forgive him. They then investigate a plane crashÂ
McCabe puts an adult magazine publisher suspected of foul play on trial for murder who is shocked by the identity of McCabe's witness who takes the stand against him.
