In each hour-long episode Realtor David Visentin and designer Hilary Farr compete for the homeowners' final decision to stay or go. David's insider perspective on the real estate market helps target listings to prospective buyers, but Hilary is determined to show homeowners that, within their budget, she can transform their worn-out house into a castle they can love. If the owners decide to list it, Hilary's hard work adds to the home's resale value. It's a tough decision either way. Which choice would you make?
With their charming, older home crammed with guitars, pianos and kid stuff, Ilda and Ryan need a domestic do over. But Ilda's in love with her fixer upper while Ryan's ready to run out the door to a new home. With a budget that doesn't match the couple's must-have list, can designer Hilary renovate their house and bring back the love to make Ryan see a future there. Or will realtor David save the day by finding a different house to serve as a suitable family space?
Homeowners Steven and Stephanie had a five year plan when they moved into their house seven years ago. Now, they are ready for some changes. They need more space and function in their home. Steven thinks their home can still achieve all they wanted seven years ago. Stephanie thinks abandoning their earlier plan is best. Will Designer Hilary make enough renovations that both Stephanie and Steven will love their home again? Or will Realtor David show them a property that makes them decide to list their family home and move on?
After having kids, Steven and Rita's once functional home is now lacking. Storage and shared bathrooms are a constant pain. Steven loves their home, and although there are some inconveniences, is willing to wait until their house fits them again. Rita wants to rid their lives of the aggravations caused by their home. Two years and an exhausted budget later, they are still trying to make their house the place they want to call home. Designer Hilary steps in to help with that plan, while realtor David wants to find a move-in ready house for the family. In the end, these world travelers will have to choose where they call home.
