When a dismal murder in the Netherlands is committed, there is always someone (sometimes even the prime minister) with a reaction said: "This is an on-Dutch crime." A rather self-confident ruling for a nation that takes pride in its lack of nationalism. That security is not based so much on pride as a national image that already has a couple of centuries of life: Dutch are sober, non-heroic, not inclined to hysteria, coherent, but tolerant towards other religions and foreigners.
