Inspector Carlo Guerrieri, a veteran police officer from Rome, finds himself partnered with a rookie who was born in Ivory Coast but raised in the capital.
During Malik and Olga's promotion ceremony, an SUV rams an organ transport car with the aim of stealing the heart intended for a 16-year-old patient. The Charter immediately sends Malik to the scene. Meanwhile, not far away, an accident occurs. Another SUV kills agent Paolo Moselli.
Carlo continues the investigation into Paolo's death, given that it has been proven that it has nothing to do with extortion related to the heart. He gets Marta to give him his son's cell phone and computer and entrusts them to Olga to get an account. Carlo asks his trusted informant, Ottavia, for help.

He is not the culprit, but a dangerous man who was separated from his wife for this reason. Investigating the case, Muzo begins to deal with guilt over Olga's death.

The investigations focus on Nusco and whoever tried to kill him. Malik also has to follow the case of a student found dead in her home. During the investigations the policeman becomes fond of a child, to whom he makes a promise. Carlo is no longer able to live with the conflict of feelings he feels and confesses to Cristina that he has fallen in love with Marta.
A young man of Romanian origins is found dead in a landfill. At first it was thought that the father of the boy's girlfriend committed the crime. Moving forward, however, we discover that his death occurred as part of an illegal boxing match, in which the boy had decided to participate in order to support his arriving son...
A boy asks forensic medicine for information on the cause of death of a friend and a few days later he too is found dead. In the hideout they thought was Imardi's, our men found his body: someone had walled him up alive. Carlo and his family restart the investigation and arrive at Leonardo Sfera, whom Marta, Muzo and Nusco arrested many years earlier for the murder of his girlfriend, Xenia, one of the girls who prostituted herself for Imardi.
Carlo understands from various factors that it was Nusco who killed Xenia years earlier and that is why Sfera wants him dead: he paid for a crime he did not commit. And Muzo and Marta were punished by depriving them of their dearest affections for not believing him.
