For the first time, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service has granted access to its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), one of 15 specialist medical units set up after the 7/7 London bombings to treat badly injured patients in extreme environments.999: NHS Rescue Squad's unprecedented access will show viewers the camaraderie and courage of men and women who risk their lives to save ours and the blood, sweat and tears required for the physically demanding and thorough training regime, testing skills ranging from nuclear decontamination to using high-speed flood relief boats.
In the first episode, the team race to the rescue of a tanker driver trapped in the wreckage of his crushed cab after a collision with a concrete gantry on the M1. Paramedic Paul puts his own safety on the line to climb onto the truck to deliver pain killing drugs to his patient.
In South Yorkshire, a waste disposal plant catches fire and the team must evacuate residents and treat workers injured in the blast as red-hot aerosol cans rain down from the sky.
Elsewhere, team leader Rochers races to save the life of a DIY mechanic trapped under his one-ton car after a jack collapses. When a sunbathing teenager plunges off a 40ft cliff local paramedics call for back-up from HART after they diagnose a potentially serious spinal injury. Meanwhile, a dispute on a building site ends with a pick-axe embedded in the bonnet of a brand-new Range Rover and the man wielding it requiring first aid for a nasty eye injury.
This week, the team races to a major chemical leak endangering the lives of thousands of people, while in Leeds an elderly motorist is run over by his own car and the HART medics fight to free his leg after it becomes trapped around the front wheel. There's a dramatic emergency at an abandoned school after a teenager falls 30ft down the chimney into an underground boiler room, sustaining serious leg injuries. Team leader Emma must comfort his mum – as well as coordinate a tricky rescue.
The heart-pounding UKTV Original series following the work of the UK's toughest medics - the Yorkshire Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team - continues with a dramatic episode. The team tend to a man gunned down outside a Mosque in Bradford, while a bizarre high-speed car crash leaves a driver, with a stash of drugs in his boot, badly injured. It's also bonfire night and when the police come under attack in the inner city, the HART medics must brave fireworks and bricks to reach an injured cop.
The HART team are called to join an operation to defuse a bomb found in a house in Wakefield.
Meanwhile in woods near Leeds, there's a tricky rescue after a BMX rider falls and fractures his spine. There's a manhunt on the banks of a river and the team are called to treat the fugitive after he finally surrenders.
Team leader Caz leads a life or death operation to save a van driver who collapsed at the wheel and in Halifax a teenager's armed is impaled on a gate, sparking a surprisingly complex operation to free him.

Meanwhile, the team get their breathing apparatus ready after a derelict school catches fire and they are called in to back up the firefighters braving collapsing floors in the smoke-filled interior. HART is called to help when a teenage girl is stuck at the bottom of a roadside ravine and there's a bizarre 999 call from the driver of a refrigerated lorry who has found freezing asylum seekers in the back of his truck.
The medics are sent to a tense standoff, involving a man with a Samurai sword and armed police. A woman in a wheelchair is critically injured in a freak road accident.
HART is called to treat one of their own after a freak accident involving an out-of-control 4x4 leaves an off-duty medic with serious injuries. A couple's lives are in danger after they are marooned on an island in a swollen river.
A massive explosion demolishes a block of flats and the team is called to treat the victims and police try to persuade a man with a gun to surrender after shots are fired on a remote farm.
