In the historic city of New Orleans, police officers, firefighters and EMTs working the overnight shift answer as many as a thousand emergency calls a night. Nightwatch follows multiple sets of partners in the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services unit who cover the intense and unpredictable period from 8 PM to 4 AM as they battle time and circumstance to save lives. The skills, dedication and determination that these critical and dangerous jobs require are on full display nightly while each new traumatic call comes in. As the city's heroes, one thing remains clear - the job of an emergency responder in NOLA is not only about saving lives, it's being there as a support system for the community of people in this diverse and inspiring city.
The NOLA EMS team celebrates the opening of its new headquarters, finally complete after ten years of working out of trailers. Meanwhile, Titus has his own new beginning as he's received his paramedic's license and he and long-time partner Dan must adjust to their new shared roles in a variety of calls. And new team, Arcady and Ted, get to know each other's styles in their first shifts together.
In a night filled with multiple shootings, Holly and Nick have to search for a gunshot victim that has gone missing. Meanwhile Titus and Dan tend to a man stabbed multiple times. Keeley is heartbroken about the shooting tragedy in Orlando, and is intent on participating in the city's upcoming pride march.
Working together for years has turned Titus and Dan into great friends. But on their shift, they inevitably come across folks who are the victims of crimes perpetuated by those closest to them. It's on calls like these when they become more than just emergency medical technicians; they're also therapists and counselors, doing whatever they can to steer some troubled people back in the right direction.
EMTs Titus and Dan resuscitate the victim of a drug overdose; Brooke and Landon tend to a girl with congenital heart issues; firefighters contain a blaze before it can wreak havoc.
The men and women who serve New Orleans reflect on the risks they take; armed intruders throw a small party into chaos; a good Samaritan gets injured while trying to break up a bar fight.
Bystanders assist the first responders at a restaurant in the French Quarter and at the scene of a car accident; a tourist has to be coaxed into going to the hospital.
Tempers rise and violence swells during a hot, humid evening; police chase two armed carjacking suspects; Keeley tends to a family injured in a car accident; Titus and Dan respond to a call from a former Playboy Bunny.
A woman in a disagreement with her boyfriend tells police a bizarre story; a suspected purse snatcher running from the authorities takes a break to finish eating some chicken strips; a tarot card reader suffers from dehydration.
The brother of a paramedic gets sucker-punched; best friends get into an accident; one of the newest members of the Nightwatch comforts a suicidal patient, then reflects on the bonds he has forged during his first year in New Orleans.
Every call on the Nightwatch can go in one of two directions. And when the calls come from every direction, the New Orleans EMTs rely on skill, experience, and also luck to save their patients. From gunshot victims to seizures to a moped rider playing Pok mon Go, they see everything on one more busy night before they can celebrate the end of the summer.
