Rio de Janeiro, late 1970s. A new agent starts working at the Ilha Grande prison, at the same time that a convict arrives at the institution on the coast of Rio. This is a time of effervescence for relationships within prison. Inspired by real events from the last 40 years, the story delves into the emergence of drug trafficking factions, based on events between the "Falange Jacaré" and "Turma do Fundão" wings of the prison. What happens inside has repercussions on the lives of Padre Nosso, Parada Geral and Morro da Promessa, communities inspired by real favelas.
Two new members arrive at Ilha Grande prison: Pedra, a prison guard and Egídio, a prisoner. The prison, made up of ordinary and political prisoners, is in a state of boiling.
Political prisoners celebrate the Amnesty Law, while Belmiro falls into a trap. With the lack of water in Padre Nosso, Amarildo shows political articulation with the community.
The trio of friends Binho, Renatinho and Ivete make the most of their youth. Sister Emily and Belmiro become closer. Gilsinho convinces Falange of his business strategies.
Belmiro's return reveals conflicting feelings between him and Amarildo. Binho and Renatinho have a fight involving Ivete. Gilsinho already has a bold plan for New Year's Eve.
Hostility between residents of Parada Geral and Padre Nosso increases. The court decisions force Mestre to give a direction to his life. On the hill, Gilsinho starts a curious business.
The tension between the residents reaches the school. In the center of Rio, Mestre, Chico and Logo carry out a major robbery. In the prison, the third wing is revolted by the privileges of the Falange.
Belmiro and Emily become closer. Amarildo and Rui try to hold the tournament final on a neutral field and avoid friction. Pedra realizes a scheme involving prison officers.
In a major police operation on Morro da Promessa, Menor and Gilsinho are arrested. Chico sets up a new bank robbery together with Nôgo, but the action does not go as planned.
It's the day of the favela football championship final between Padre Nosso and Parada Geral. Members of the Red Command and the Third Command send reinforcements and tension increases.
A new rebellion explodes in Ilha Grande and Pedra tries to mediate. Bangú 1, Rio's maximum security prison, opens. War was declared between Padre Nosso and Parada Geral.
