Follows the lives of seven Indigenous students as they leave home to spend a year boarding at one of the oldest and most elite boarding schools in the country, Geelong Grammar. Wrestling with their conflicting identities as students move between boarding life and home life, it creates a historic record of one of Australia's key Indigenous education pathways and a complex portrait of what it is to be an Indigenous child in Australia today.
As the 2020 school year starts, Indigenous students travel thousands of kilometres interstate, leaving their families and home, to attend the prestigious Geelong Grammar School.
As the school year gets underway, Xyz, Chloe and Marlley face personal challenges and must leave boarding school and return home; Jaycee travels home to her Aboriginal Mission in regional Victoria.
Students face the ups and downs of remote learning after COVID-19 shuts the school down; Tahlia appreciates being closer to her family in Darwin; Sunny feels more pressure about his Year 12 exams.
The Year 12 exams begin in Geelong; Xyz King begins the infamous Timbertop final marathon; Marlley does not return to school from Broome.
