Outreau : Un cauchemar français delves into one of France's biggest judicial tragedies. In the early 2000s, in northern France, the young Judge Burgaud is in charge of investigating accusations of paedophilia in a family. But the case becomes increasingly complex as the investigation moves ahead, when other inhabitants of the town appear to also be involved. Between accusation and counter-accusations, the legal machine entangles.
Outreau, 2001. A shocking case of family incest morphs into a terrifying threat of widespread child abuse. One young judge is assigned to the case.
As the case grows ever larger and the horror of the nation bears down upon him, Burgaud becomes increasingly reliant on Myriam Badaoui's testimony.
After three long years, the trial finally begins. As the lawyers for the defense start working together, they bring about a shift in the narrative.
The jury renders its verdict and a new trial is held in Paris. As the entire justice system is called into question, the French public demands answers.
