Niels Oxen is Denmark's most decorated hunting soldier. During battle in Mali, he loses his best friend because his superior, Major Hannibal Frederiksen, lets them down. Oxen succeeds in persuading the chairman of the defense committee, Johnny Gregersen, to set up a commission of inquiry to uncover the process. At the same time, the head of PET, Frigg Mossman, is conducting an unofficial investigation into a secret power network in Denmark.
The hunter soldier Oxen is let down by his superior and reports the case. It will be the start of a personal downturn, because several people want Oxen out of the game.
PET chief Mossman entrusts agent Margrethe Franck with a crucial secret. The ox begins to settle into the forest, but no one can feel safe anymore.
Kajsa Corfitzen returns home to Denmark to take over Nørlund Castle. Oxen reconsiders Mossman's job offer, while Margrethe struggles to keep up with her job.
Margrethe and Oxen make a surprising discovery in the hunting lodge. Mossman senses that Margrethe may no longer be her deepest confidante
Mossman and Margrethe seek out the Minister of Justice in his summer house in connection with the case, while Kajsa finds new information in the castle's basement.
Oxen and Margrethe get into trouble in their investigation. Mossman wants to reveal his true intentions, but who can be trusted?
