A Finnish family is found murdered in cold blood on the Spanish Sunshine Coast. Forensic investigator Hilkka Mäntymäki will be sent to investigate a crime that disturbs the peace of the Finnish community in Fuengirola.
Hilkka is sorely needed at home. However, Andrés needs her help to sort out the case. Gradually, the events that led to the tragic death of the Saitama family begin to open up to forensic investigators.
The surprising connections found between the deaths of two Finnish women make Andrés and Hilka, who has returned to Finland, ring the alarm bells. It soon begins to appear that a third victim is involved in the cases.
The killer strikes again. Hilkka returns to Spain. Andrés begins to suspect that Police Chief Coréa is protecting someone. The friendship between Hilka and Andrés deepens in the aftermath of an evening on the beach.
Towards the dark. Hilkka, Andrés and Luisa track down the new suspect. In the nursing home, Aarne ponders what happens to a person after death. But who is the mystical JK and how does he relate to real estate agent Maikki Mattson?
Hilkka is kidnapped. The kidnapper tells Hilka a sad story from the distant past, a youth camp called Children of Summer. The story leads Hilka toward the time and place where evil originated.
Police across the Spanish Sunshine Coast have been harnessed to find the suspected perpetrator. The chase culminates in a shot in the police station yard with fatal consequences.
Hilkka and Luisa track down the murderer, while Andrés is pushed aside from the center of the investigation. Aarne has found his way north, to his favorite fish-ends. Darkness inevitably descends, both in Spain and in Finland.
