Prison Life: Raw & Real is a series combining mobile phone footage illegally shot by inmates with personal stories from former offenders and wardens to reveal the reality of life in prison.
Prisoners are shown being forced to eat cockroaches off the floor to earn a hit of drugs, or being beaten over minor disagreements. Inmates and wardens both allege that one direct cause of illicit activity is corrupt prison staff.
Former offenders talk about the hierarchical structure of prisons, and how the crime they committed in the outside world dictates how they are treated inside.
