At the end of the war, Vidkun Quisling is arrested and put on trial. Maria, Quisling's wife, tries to save him from the death penalty, while the church's sent priest, Peder Olsen, tries to save his soul.
The war is over, and Vidkun Quisling is negotiating with the police about the transfer of government power. Milorg wants to internecine Quisling.
Quisling is in prison. Maria lives in hiding in an apartment in Frogner. Priest Peder Olsen tries to make Quisling realize his crimes.
Quisling must defend himself on several fronts. His lawyer wants to declare him insane, while the prosecutors are asking for the death penalty.
Quisling is deeply affected by his imprisonment and psychiatric treatment. The lawyer wants Maria's help to portray Quisling as humble.
The verdict is handed down. Maria fights against the Norwegian state, and tries to get Quisling pardoned. Peder tries to get Quisling to trust in god.
