The story centers on Minato Kiyoumizu, a boy who quit playing water polo after an incident during the winter of his third year of junior high school. After entering high school, he makes a promise and decides to try water polo again and join the school's team with his friends. Eitarō tries to convince Minato to continue water polo in Yamanami. Unfortunately, the latter refuses, furious at not being the mainstay of Shogakukan and constantly being compared to who he was before.
A month before the departmental tournament, Minato takes the reins of training, while following his own particular program in order to find his former form.
Yamanami's team nervously enter the county tournament. Minato intends to fulfill his leading role, but that's not counting on the Rikka Academy and its offensive strategy.
It's finally time for their second match of prefecturals--the long-awaited showdown with Shogakukan. Minato, Eitaro, Jo, Amihama, Ejiri, Babayaro, and Ushimado join their seven hearts as one and challenge the best team in Japan.
